BENI.

OH   –   clever  ,  ‘course he shouldn’t expect things for free .  how cruel was it of them though  dangling the cigarette over him like they were playing with some CAT .  he huffs  hand moved to cup a pale cheek as eyes roll to the side in thought .  “ mmm . . well  what do you want ?  perhaps   –   a kiss on the cheek will suffice ? ”

———❝ AS NICE AS IT SOUNDS… i would not twist your arm for that. ❞
he lowered the coffin nail, handing it to beni as he moved to close the pack. offering his lighter, the man almost found it funny when he’d demonstrated his affinity to pyrokinesis not long ago.

❝ unless you’d be so charitable?

BENI.

 @faustium .  //     )

ell ~ iot . ”  comes in a sweet little hum as arms find themselves draped o’er shoulders of a familiar face .  the creature wastes NO time in invading that precious personal space  inching his face right in to LAP pierced tongue up the back of their ear .  share a cigarette with me .

———❝ SO NEEDY FOR MY QUALITY TOBACCO…? unlike you, i’ve learned to savor my luxurious addiction. ❞
the man smiled, plucking a cigarette from the pack and dangling it over beni’s head. he’d grown fond of the vampire, going as far as to allow him this close contact.

❝ what will you do for it?

BENI.

“ i smoked   –   very briefly after graduating high school but i never got any satisfaction from it.   he was more of a drinker  ,  being a lightweight had it’s PERKS with that.  it was easy to forget one or two things after a handful of shots  ,  but THAT was a different story for another time.  “ . . i suppose that is true.   seems for a moment the fact they weren’t human slipped his mind

———❝ I FIND IT TO BE A MATTER OF TASTE. i started when i was young, and tobacco was a lot worse in those days. ❞
he rubbed his temple with the edge of his thumb, eyes on the vampire with a sort of empathetic smile. theses were days long ago for him, and the thought of quitting now seemed hardly in his ability.

❝ my brother gave me my first cigarette. maybe i’m just imitating. ❞

???

corners of glossed lips would twitch ‘fore sheepish smile FLASHES ‘cross them.  honesty was a good trait to have but there was certainly such a thing as being TOO honest  &&  he fears that.  “ ah . . sometimes.  maybe every other weekend or something like that   –   i usually come with friends but the group i always go with was busy so i came alone tonight.   it was BETTER to drink with friends  ,  safer too but he had a bit of stress to swallow.  “ what about you ?

———❝ I try to mix it up when I’m in the area. ❞
There was no reason the man had to pick favorites before he’d seen the town. Dives and bars were the places to be on his weekends and evenings from work. He traveled often, money never an issue. It was natural he grab a few drinks in the pursuit of meeting new people.

❝ My name is Elliot, by the way. ❞

HONEST.

there is a tiny LUMP that begins to form in his throat after hearing such words tumble from company’s mouth   –   they managed to turn cheeks of porcelain to wine within only seconds.  it’s a dark color that spreads even toward pierced ears  ,  SPANNING o’er bridge of his nose much like the horizon itself.  he was easily embarrassed though  this was nothing new.  after a moment lashes flutter  &&  head turns AWAY.  suddenly the glass holding his beverage was far more interesting.  “ i’m only being honest.

———❝ Honesty is a good trait to have. ❞
The flush to the other’s face was clear as day, a smile soon finding its way upon his lips. Elliot finished his drink, eyes loose with the late night buzz of alcohol and exhaustion. The bar had become empty with the passing hours, the two night owls still remaining as the sound of a broom hitting floor rang in Elliot’s ears.

❝ Now, forgive me if this sounds like a line, but do you come here often? ❞

BENI.

nothing more than a small NOD of the head is offered at first  ,  fingers gently tapped together to rid flesh of ash  &&  a subtle burning sensation.  “ . . then why don’t you   he’s never smoked before so he cannot understand the addiction nor relief one may feel after smoking BUT he at least knows better than to put one down for their vices.

———❝ I’ve no sense of consequences from the instant gratification. ❞
He’d never talked about his job to the other, for better or worse. The stress and adrenaline that came from his profession often kept the man at constant alert. He’d done his fair share of drugs and pharmaceuticals over the years, their effects as numbing as they were short lived. He’d sobered up, but his one vice remained.

❝ It’s not like it will kill me, you know?

LOVELY.

arm bends  &&  head leans into SOFT palm ‘fore a curious twinkle GLEAMS within half – lidded eyes.  perhaps they had PIQUED his interest.  “ you’re so young . .   words tumble from the bat in a whisper  somewhere deep down he even felt a tad ENVIOUS.  although he wasn’t ancient per se  a hundred was far better than FOUR hundred.  “ you look lovely for your age   –   is that a BETTER compliment ”  lips shiny with gloss then curl  revealing but the FAINTEST of dimples within porcelain cheeks.

           ———❝ I’m only human – that means a lot to me. ❞
Unchanged and immortalized, the man felt his age with each passing day in ways apart from his body. He saw friends and acquaintances grow rich and old and dead, days spent categorizing the few he let close to him in his silent hubris. Rarely did he find himself in the company of mortals; it was more humane to live apart, than to live alone.

❝ I find it kind of ironic how the pot calls the kettle black. ❞
Lovely was the word he used.

He’d hardly met a lovelier facade.
